Terms of Use

Backspace — published by Sergiu Silosiev

Effective 16 October 2026

By using Backspace you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app. These terms apply together with Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/); where the two differ, these terms apply to the extent the law allows.

What Backspace is

An app that helps you free up space on your iPhone. It scans your photo library on the device, groups duplicates, similar shots, screenshots and large videos, lets you remove what you choose, shrinks videos you choose, shows photos taken on this day in earlier years so you can keep or remove them, and plays a tone through the speaker to help push water out of it.

You decide what is deleted

The app suggests; you decide. Nothing is deleted until you confirm it, and iOS asks you to confirm again.

You are responsible for what you choose to delete. We are not liable for the loss of photos or videos you deleted after confirming, including once Recently Deleted has been emptied.

Shrinking videos

Shrinking replaces a video with a smaller copy. The copy keeps the original date and place, but it has lower quality — fewer pixels and a lower bitrate — and the estimated saving shown before you start is an estimate. The original goes to Recently Deleted and can be restored from there for up to 30 days; after that, only the smaller copy remains. Some videos (for example slow-motion or edited ones) cannot be shrunk.

The speaker tone

The speaker tool plays a loud low tone for a short time. It may help move water out of the speaker grille; it is not a repair, it does not treat water damage, and we do not promise any result. Do not hold the phone to your ear while it plays, and do not use it with headphones — the app refuses to start while headphones are connected. If the sound stays muffled or the phone was submerged, contact Apple or an authorised service provider.

Free use and subscription

Scanning your library and seeing what can be freed is free, and so is the speaker tool. Some features — such as clearing many items at once and shrinking videos — require a subscription. The subscription screen shows what is included.

Your content is yours

Your photos and videos stay yours and stay on your device. We do not receive them, claim no rights in them and do not use them for anything. See the Privacy Policy: https://great-apps-s.github.io/backspace/privacy

Licence and acceptable use

We grant you a personal, non-transferable licence to use the app on Apple devices you own or control, as permitted by the App Store terms. Do not copy, modify, reverse-engineer or resell the app, and do not use it for anything unlawful.

Availability

We may change, suspend or discontinue the app or any of its features. Features depend on iOS and on the access you grant; if you limit photo access, the app can only work with what you selected.

No warranty

The app is provided "as is". To the fullest extent permitted by law we make no warranty that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, that it will find every duplicate, that its suggestions are right, or that it will free any particular amount of space.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Sergiu Silosiev is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for loss of data, arising from your use of the app. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for the app in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, or your rights as a consumer under the law of the country where you live.

Ending access

You can stop using the app at any time by deleting it (and cancelling any subscription as described above). We may end your licence if you break these terms.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms; the new version is published here with a new effective date. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept it.
